Questions:
Flags: Zac doesn't fly any flags while underway. They would be shredded to pieces in a week. He flies the Ameican flag while in port and also a courtesy flag of the country he is visiting. The courtesy flag is smaller than the home port flag. Before customs arrives to check any boat it is customary to fly a yellow quarantine flag which is lowered once the inspection has been passed.
Hair: No hair cut planned. Zac did pack a few hair supplies. I believe it was Jesse Martin that left port for nearly a year with no brush or hair ties (or haircut!).
Length of Ozzie stay: Cylcone season in the Indian Ocean begins in December but it is not uncommon to have an early cyclone in November or even earlier. Because Zac stopped in PNG for so long and then the slow passage to Darwin...he'll have about a week to get rested and get Intrepid ship shape before heading out again.
Moms impressions: I have only spoken to Zac twice and very briefly since he arrived but I have seen a huge change in him from the last time I saw him. I half expected him to be burned out and irritated by the slow passage and lack of communication but he was rested and bright-eyed and excited to get to Africa! I can't say enough about Skype. To be able to see your family while they are away is amazing!
Good night,
Marianne

Welcome to Aus!
Hope you enjoy your time here,

G'day Sunderlands, and fellow Zac Pac!!
Many thanks for the link to the Australian morning show; everyone looked fantastic! Such a treat to watch! Loved the photos as well :)
Zac, the Australians are going to love you; they are some of the nicest people I have ever met, kind and generous, and great lovers of sailing! I think I read somewhere that there are more boats per-capita in Oz than anywhere else on earth....how cool it that!! LOL
I can't believe I'm going to "say" this: DO NOT cut your hair! I love the idea of a photo in front of a barber shop @ each port, that would be neat. Grow your hair then donate it to locks of love when you return home......jmho :)
We're enjoying some incredible autumn sailing here in central New York, but soon I will be hauling out "Wombat" for her winter rest....which means I will have to live vicariously through your sailing adventures!
Good luck with your haul out and repairs, I'm sure finding any parts you might need will prove to be much easier than when you were in PNG!
Enjoy your time with dad!

I have written a small essay about Zac that I have sent to the 17,000 readers of my newsletter.
Anyone interested in reading the essay can view it at www.barstools4u.com/Newsletters/Sept08.htm
Enjoy your stay in Darwin Zac. I feel bad that you will not have time to visit the barber, but I do understand you are busy.
Any barnacles on the hull?
Cheers everyone

Good Morning all,
Great to see the video clips of Zac. Some of the questions these reporters ask...??? I can not believe he asked Marianne if she was following the trip closely. Well what do you think, dude??
Great job Zac. You look and sound great!!

Luckily we had no damage from Ike. Just 80 mph winds, lots of down trees and power lines. Some people are still without power. Thanks for asking.
Ah, great to see Zac and he seems to be fairing well; doesn't look exhausted or starved! I bet it's been nice for you, Marianne and Laurence to see him, by Skype and in person.
Sounds like it will be a very busy time in Darwin - thanks all for the info on the time constraints. I hope Zac at least gets his new IPOD so he can give that one CD a rest!
I also hope the repairs go quickly and smoothly and all equipment is back in shape before heading off.
Zac, it's too bad you can't spend a more relaxed time in Oz, but SA is a fine place and I hope you can spend some quality time there. You're an amazing individual, Zac!
Cheers to you and to all...

!!!!! GRANDEEEEEEEeeeeeee!!!!!
Love the new videos! Glad you found some companionship in the vast blue! Have a great time in Darwin with your dear 'ole dad and best of luck with boat repairs. CindyinCincy
Sykpe is unreal, anytime I travel internationally, I buy minutes (at like $0.03 per minute) and love it...
Of course, if the other person is also Skype, it's free... amazing...
If Zac and Laurence could take some close ups of the skeg/rudder area for the blog, that would be great...
Any other wear-n-tear images would be great too to show how much Interpid has put up with... Zac too of course...

Great to hear of Zac safely in OZ. Now Dad, and Zac, get those repairs done, get the boy restocked, and get out on that BIG water again.....and get ready Africa.....here comes Zac Sunderland
Awesome, Marianne! Keeping you all in my prayers. Peace, Your Oklahoma Well-Wisher

Hello Everyone,
Loved the Sunrise 7 interview. The question answered about Jesse Martin was correct no haircut, no hair ties, and no hair brush. The last part of Graham's journey on Dove was also the same. This was by accident because his wife removed it from the sailboat before he finished the last two legs of his journey.
Let the hair go and join the other circumnavigators in not cutting any hair during the journey.
Take Care,
