Darwin: Photos

Photos wouldn't post last night for some reason. Special thanks to Photo Journalism student Jen Edney who has funded her trips to follow Zac out of a passion for the project.

Zac's arrival.

Zac on Skype with Toby after realizing that Toby is wearing one of his hats to which Toby's reply was "Neaner, neaner, neaner. You can't catch me!"

Some Australian entertainment!

Thank-you Jen for sharing the passion and capturing Zac so well.
I loved the bit about little Toby...
getting into big brother's hats...
and so it goes...
Looks like Zac had a fine little tour of Darwin, got some rest and is ready for the next leg...

Hello Zac and Everyone,

What great pictures especially Zac in the fish tank. At least he had something to protect him from the crocks.

I hope you will enjoy your time on land. Make sure that intrepid is ready for a good sail to Africa. Take care and get ready for the next leg.

Enjoy,

G'Day to you Laurence and thank you so much for the wonderful pictures and description of your stay in Darwin! The Sunderlands are all excellent writers. We so appreciate you taking the time to write and share all that has been going on. We've been thinking about you!

I love the picture of Zac talking to Toby. And the words on his t-shirt in the first photo. Wow, does Zac live by those words!

So many people gave of their time and talent in Darwin! Jen for those wonderful pictures, Dan, John, Make and Sue, Allistair and Sunny along with the NT. Thanks so much for your support!

Lots to do Zac and we're wishing you the best! Always in our prayers...

any chance Jen can have her own blog?? terrific photos indeed!! thanks for following Zac through his journey and sharing your photos with us - you are our eyes!! and I would love to hear your perspective some day - perhaps a sequel to the book haha...

Great job Zac! looking for to your safe leg ahead!

Gwenyth
ps... I still don't like the music in the background of the videos but I do understand you are covering up his own music for the reason of copyright issues... shouldn't that be waived though with this kid! ha! wouldn't ya think those artists would be proud he was listening to their music while at sea? I know I would!

OK, Zac-Packers, resume breathing!!

As I was retiring last night, there were still no posts since Sept. 18. Upon arising this morning, there are two: One from Zac and one from Dad along with great photos by Jen. The sun is shining again!

Sounds like a good use of time in Darwin. Hopefully the time on solid unmoving terra firma returned Zac to his 'land-legs' and that time spent in eateries restored his taste buds.

Good luck on all the maintenance chores. We are looking forward to out next leg on to Africa. Let's roll!

Laurence and Jen,
Thanks so much for the update on Darwin adventures and Intrepid's status. The pictures were great, especially the look on Zac's face while finding that Toby was wearing his hat!
So wonderful that so many kind people jumped in to help in so many ways.

Zac,
Wishing you a good send off when Intrepid is ready and the tide is right.

There is a world time table which is in German but it's a graphic and it seems to put the US time zone in relation to the rest of he world. Here is the link:

Wow, the wait was worth it! Absolutely fantastic photos! Thanks, Jen --- your belief in this undertaking and the passion you have for your work certainly shine through.

Lawrence, thanks for the long awaited update. All of us Zac Packers have been patiently waiting (and checking the blog 5,6,7 times a day!). I know Marianne and your other children are happy to have you home, while at the same time it must have been another bittersweet goodbye in Darwin.

Zac, love the expression on your face when Toby is razzing you! I bet you have a LOOOONG MEMORY!

So glad this week turned out to be one of fun as well as work. You've certainly earned it. What great memories you'll take with you when you leave.

My students and I have been praying that the work on Intrepid would go smoothly. They were so excited to hear about the two guys who volunteered to help, as well as the many others who have made, and are continuing to make, this possible.

You will be much in our thoughts and prayers as you prepare for departure.

We're cheering you on, Zac!

P.S. Does anyone know what the distance is on this next leg? I've read some entries that mention Christmas Island. Will that be the next stop, and where is it exactly?

That smile on Zac's face while on Skype with his little brother Toby is worth a million bucks. It shows one of the sacrifices he is making in this trip, while away from his family. Very heartwarming.

Jen, thank you for bringing the wonderful photo's to us all. I'm glad you got to spend that time with Zac, and his dad. I am grateful to you for bringing a visual of this trip to us all.

Hello Jen, Laurence, Zac, & Zac-Pac,

I just wanted to say to Jen THANK YOU so much for all those great pictures. You're bringing Zac's Darwin stay to us via photos. I'm sure everyone one here really appreciates what you're doing here.

The time is near for Zac and Intrepid to hit the High Tide and depart on the next leg. Hopefully everything is in order and ready to Sail Away. I would love to hear from Laurence again to know how everything is going. I'm sure we'll hear from him when he has the time to actually write and inform us.

I hope all goes well for you Zac prior to departing. Please make sure you check that list twice.

Great to see the new pics. You look great. I've been really falling behind the last couple of weeks because of some personal issues (I thought last week was bad???). Everything should be fine now.....I hope!

I take it from Lawrence's post that you are probably gone from Darwin and off through the Indian Ocean and then Africa. We're all pulling for you!

Onward!

Hey,
Is the 'Do Hard Things' t-shirt Zac's wearing in the first picture somehow related to the book by Brett and Alex Harris? 'Do Hard Things' is it's title. Just wondering.

P.S. Zac, I've been following your trip for about a month now, and really respect what you're doing. Stay safe!

Laurence,
Thank you for taking time out from your busy schedule to give us all the updates. I'm sure it was a very busy time for you getting all the necessities together for Zac's next leg. I know the time you spent together was special.

Jen,
Thank you for posting the pics. The smile on Zac's face, while talking to Toby, was priceless. Swimming with the crocs! Thank goodness he was in a cage.

Zac,
I know it was a feeling of gladness when you set eyes on your Dad. Glad you had some time to have fun in Darwin, before setting sail for your next leg. As always, we'll be sailing right along with you and God speed.

Zac,
I teach Marine Biology and Oceanography at Moorpark High School, located in Moorpark, CA. My students are currently completing a unit on Ocean Movement. This morning we began class with our world current maps and your website. Over the course of the next academic year we will be following you on your adventure!! We call it, "Zac Track". Today our discussions included how the California Current could have assisted you on your sail to Hawaii.

Perhaps upon your return you could visit the students at Moorpark High School to discuss your adventures!
