Steady as She Goes

Latest Position: 04/24/09 1500Z 8 07.596N 46 30.099W

Pressing on here with great trade wind conditions. I've had a large, steep swell this morning that was getting things pretty wet. Fortunately, things have calmed down some this afternoon.

I've been cleaning up some as I get ready to arrive in port again. It is amazing how messy it gets in this little space.

I've been unable to fix the radar and so I'm still getting up every 20-30 minutes at night. I haven't seen any ships in the last 24 hours and the web site showing all of the AIS signals across the globe shows pretty light shipping around me. Dad has some spare parts for the radar so hopefully we'll be able to figure things out in the calm of St George Harbor.

I have received a lot of offers for help and advice for my passage through the Panama Canal. Steve Fink from Marina del Rey, who has recently passed through the Canal, sent a long email describing the process in detail including the places to stop and not to stop. I now know that there are crocs in the lake and not to freak out if I am woken by screaming monkeys. He sent a link to video taken at the Miraflores Lock.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2986306052094293222

I will try to let you all know when I am passing through there.

I am now confirmed for a slip at the Grenada Yacht Club. Sorry, but it will be too late to send anything there. We will work on an address in Panama. My nonstop leg from Panama back to Marina del Rey is going to be a long one so having your letters and cards will give me something interesting to do.

Plans are shaping up for my return. There are a lot of things to organize. Special thanks to Christian and Sean at the Pinkston Group and Micheal Broggie at the Westlake Nautical Foundation for taking the helm here.

We are in the process of making some changes to my web site. There is a link now on the home page to 'My Newsletter'. If you subscribe to this we will send you updates about exact time, place etc. of my return, book and DVD release, and travel plans. If you have any problems signing up, send me an email at zacsworldadventure@yahoo.com and we'll figure it out.

Zac, and the Zac World!

What a great community here.

Mercedes of Panama, you
are a good person for volunteering
some help getting Intrepid
through the locks. Glad I
have been buying Dell for so many years!

To take a wee boat through
is a special challenge I am
sure.

Stern props would
eat a sailboat just
like the crocodiles eat
monkeys, I guess.

The Panama time lapse web cam
will cover all the activity.

Zac, we are all "lock"-ing
forward to your Panama
trip. And, the layover in Grenada
will be interesting too.

Anybody seen Natasha?

Mike.

I have been reading your blog on and off since your journey began. I have always wanted to ask if you have a girlfriend or someone special waiting for you back home. I know your only 16 but you seem so mature. Don't worry I am not hitting on you, I am a middle age housewife with 3 kids, lol!!

Oh man Zac, Do I sense excitement from you that the return is coming soon? I have been proud and impressed with your positive attitude, and the maturity you are showing during the long interval portion of your journey.

Everyone is excited for your return, and for seeing what the future has in store for you. You have given us all so much.

Best,
Peter

@ Capt Zac!
Nice to read you're making such good speed. Sure hope you're still taking your anti-malarials. Are your power-naps helping at all?

DaveH raised a valid point about the night vision specs, hope you've followed his advice.

@ Team Sunderland -
Thx again for keeping us in the know. Y'all are AWESOME!

@ Marilyn -
Thx for sharing the news link. The updated FAQs are a really good read.

@ ZacPac -
In re-checking out Zac's Store, I've noticed the 50% sale is still going on. I personally have bought "a few" more shirts for co-w*rkers/family members/mates on me team. It gets the word out & hopefully encourages them to read about & support our Capt.

I've put up me 1st Zac! calendar (me boss still checks the pics out) in me cube & have the poster on me cube wall (peeps stop by now & then to ask how he's doing).

One co-w*rker asked when Capt Zac! got home! lol I immediately pulled up the blog to show him where Capt Zac! was & took him to my wall world map to pin point his last co-ords. :D I emailed him the blog link so he could follow along at his desk. ;)

For those peeps who know of others who don't have wall calendars - stop into Zac's Store & buy them one! For those of you who have "admin assistants" it's a great belated Admin Day/Week gift.

BTW - the eBook was a GREAT idea. Thx Lord Laurence/Lady Marianne for sharing!

Don't forget, you can also donate while shopping at Zac's Store. Do you really need that latte/going out for lunch? Sacrafice one a week & donate the amount to Capt Zac!

With ALL OF US helping out, even if it's just a couple bucks, maybe WE, as Zac's Pac, can help Team Sunderland continue to support our Hero.

Bear HUGS Y'all!

monkeys, I guess.'
OOoooo!
Don't we have a great bunch of people on here....all desiring the same thing, to see you safe and succeed in your dream!
So encouraging.
Thinking of you Zac.

I tried to post last night but Google gave me an error...

Zac, hang in there, these long legs are tough... It's easy to get caught up in focusing on ever minute, hour, day left till you stop in Grenada, but instead, focus on what you've done, all the poeple you've met, all the fun things you've done, all the stories you've heard, and all the stories you're going to tell...

Hope the scope is helping you spot shipping lights over the horizon... Good luck on the Radar, key piece of equipment for sure...

Hang out some lines, that will help entertain you a bit too...

I'm glad you're getting everything ready for the Panama Canal passage. It sounds like its going to be an exciting time for the Zac Pac and you too.

Please keep us all informed. I almost can't believe that you're getting so close to coming home. I'm sure Mom & Dad feel much differently about that situation. Enjoy the time and keep an eye out for the ships at night.

It's been a long time since I checked in...internet connection went caput! But I'm back today, hopefully I'll continue to be able to check in on you. I checked every day for the first 7 months of your journey. Now I have to catch up on the last 4! Or I'll wait for the book!

Looking forward to your exciting arrival back in MDR. In the meantime, wish I could get you a cold gatorade! Hope the radar situation clears up and you can get back to more restful nights!

To DANA - Re: whether to catch up on Zac's blog or 'wait for the book'. Surely, Zac's book is bound to be a fascinating tale of his entire adventure, but it will also be history. There's something far more exciting in perusing his BLOG -- almost as if we were onboard Intrepid with him. We share his disappointments and his achievements in real time. We harbor the thrill of the ride while we pray for him.

Buy the book one day and, whilst reading it, remember the thoughts you had while taking the journey through his eyes.

ZAC - we're still lovin' you and hanging on your every word. God Bless!

Hiya Z!!
I grow more excited for you as each day passes! You've done such a wonderful job so far; met all kinds of new people, made friends, an adventure here and there, outstanding! Keep up the good work and remember to look forward!

The crock thing....good to know...YIKES! As for the monkeys, that would be a little scary if you weren't aware of the noise they make! Hope they can't find their way onto Intrepid! (actually that would be pretty funny..or maybe not...who knows...I'm kind of tired from sanding my boat ALL day and am kind of goofy right now)

Will hold on to the things I have for you until we have the address in Panama!

Like the title of your post "steady as she goes", be safe HAVE FUN!!! Fair winds and following seas. ~~~~~~_/)

Zac:

I'm endorsing and seconding the comments of Peter.

Your return to MDR will be a big event to us ZPers but will be bitter-sweet. We anxiously await what the future has in store for you.

We're still aboard and thank you for the experiences you've shared with us. They continue to be great!

Hey Zac (and mom and dad)

It would be a blast to be one of the line handlers on Intrepid on your passage through the Panama Canal.

Why don't you auction off the positions to the highest bidders?

Sail on!

Hello Zac!

I hope you are still making good progress. I have to admit that my first thought of screaming monkeys was "what an amazing alarm clock!", but on second thought, probably not. :) Best wishes and keep us updated!
