Arrival Photos a la Jen

More fabulous photos from Jen Edney!

Laurence with Intrepid making her way in

You don't see this every day!!!

A rather tired looking boy with a rather tired looking boat

A kiss from grandma out from the UK!

Check out Jen's web site for more great photos at www.jenedney.com
and her blog at http://jennedney.blogspot.com/

Busy day for the ground crew in PV today. Everybody busy running. Laurence has a handle on the repairs but it is a BIG job. Imagine grinding fiberglass in 90 degrees with 90% humidity. Not a pretty sight!

More soon....

Wow! That 2nd photograph, perfectly captioned as "You don't see this every day" is beautifully dramatic.

The photo is an instant classic. Hope it gets widely published for Jen.

Next . . . How about some photos of the damaged bulkhead and repairs.

Glad you're in a safe harbor waiting out Andres. Seems like a rather stubborn storm. And it looks like a nice ride as you came in to port... :) Sorry to hear about the bulkhead, but seems like you'd need to pull in somewhere anyway to dodge Andres. I hope you can get underway again soon; bet you're feeling the full from home!

Jen, as always, great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Cheers all!

Oh, wow, Marianne - thank you for the update and sharing Jen's beautiful pictures again! So glad to officially hear that Lawrence is there in PV with Zac, heading up the repairs. And how wonderful that grandma has now gotten to experience Zac's adventure first-hand! Beautiful, sweet post - warms the heart!

Jen -- Your pictures have always been amazing and I've enjoyed them so much. They really bring to life an aspect of Zac's adventure that we would have sorely missed. The colors in your photos are so vivid and I feel really capture the moment. I mean, how incredible the sea looks in that second photo -- it is actually black! Thank you so much for your time, dedication, and sharing your beautiful work with us.

Zac, Lawrence, & Grandma - looking forward to reading more about your time in port - working, resting, and enjoying life!

Take care all, Peace, Your Oklahoma Well-Wisher

How COOL is THAT, that G-ma could fly in! AWESOME! then Zac has someone to "look after him" ;) while in port.

Wish you could fly down there, Marianne. But alas...at least you still have "a great life!"

Neat that Zac is at a port he knew from a while back. Seeing as he was zooming around on a scooter much of the time, he probably remembers his way around pretty well!

Looks like Andres is north of you now, but still tropical storms brewing all around. DOES NOT MAKE for COMFORT cruising! Glad dad is there getting INTREPID back up for the rest of the journey home!

THANKS L and INTREPID PORT TEAM for getting Zac taken care of.
SLEEP and EAT WELL, ZAC, while you can. Enjoy your Grandma too! How often do you get to spend time with her?? Try to appreciate her while ya got her. :)

BLESSINGS!

My God, Im so impressed...in awe. You're safe...and the photos! I'm a Mimi(Desi's Grandmother), & I completely understand Jen's photo of you & yours. I'd swim if I had to. And I just realized something as I looked at the photos...something I hadn't consciously noticed before...your hair. I loved it getting longer, but it's also the difference in you. It actually lets us know how far you've come, how long you've sailed...and there's a look only saiors have...a confidence, unmistakably unafraid. (photo #3, awesome!) I'm extremely proud of all of Jen's photos, of you...and the hair. (of course, the sea. She's slightly aggitated.) I'm delighted you didn't meet up with the scissors!!! What character! Cudo's to your Dad, too. He looks pretty tiny out there by you in the photo, but he's there. All our prayers for a fast & furious recovery...and don't cut the hair! e & Desi love it!!!!!!! Happy your safe, from Atlanta, Brenda & Desi!!!

I don't think Oklahoma Well Wisher could have described how I felt any better! So that's OKWW x 2 !

@ Jen,
My goodness, what beautiful photos you've given us. The one with Zac and Intrepid, as they limp into port speaks volumnes about what Zac and Intrepid just endured. Battered and worn, but both have earned the name Intrepid.

Let the chant begin for Intrepid...

definition from www.merriamwebster.com/Intrepid

Intrepid (adj)

characterized by resolute fearlessness, fortitude, and endurance;an intrepid explorer

Also, the one with Intrepid being assaulted by rouge waves as she battles her way into port is incredibly dramatic. I encho Grant's thoughts about this one.

Gee, Intrepid kinda reminds me of how those Gemini and Apollo space capsules used to look after reentry.
Maybe a book should be written from the boats point of view, hey that could even make a great kids book!

Adios Amigos and hope you are back out there soon. It has been great seeing God's hand in this latest part of the journey.

Well Zac, I bet you were surprised to near tears seeing your Grandma there! Just making it to port with a cracked bulkhead would be miracle enough, and then there's Grandma. Did you have to pinch yourself?

Well, I am soooo envious because a co-worker will be in Palm Springs at the end of the month. That's only about 90 miles from Marina Del Rey. I wish I were going with her!

I hope all goes well with the repairs and what is hopefully your final 'pit stop.' Enjoy what you can while you are there!

Oh, and yes....fantastico photos Jen!

A big sigh of relief to have you safely in port. I agree with the other bloggers, Jen's pix are fantastic!

I also agree with "anonymous" that looking at the pix, one can see your transition from "boy" to man. You've learned much thru this experience, and grown up tremendously thru the process.

Many prayers have been "shot up" by my wife and I for your safety.

I wish that we could be part of the "welcome home committee, but just cannot swing that at this time.

I hope Zac's book has LOTS of Jen's photographs.

And I hope that Photo #2 of Intrepid in the waves gets a nice big display in the book.

I've been thumbing through sailing books for decades, and that photo #2 is one of the most engaging I've ever seen. The boat looks so small and heroic in those waves, just a bit of the jib flying, yet she's still heeled over.

That photograph makes Intrepid look like the Little Engine that Could -- some kind of heroic wee boat that is happy to be entering harbor at last, and relieved to be delivering her master safely to port.

To Jill Callaghan --

The quote's value cannot be lessened by correctly attributing it to historian James Anthony Froude, from his book, The Nemesis of Faith.

The complete quote: “You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one. Go out into life, you will find your chance there, and only there.”

Most certainly, your application of these words to one Zac Sunderland is entirely appropriate and accurate.

Jen---I agree with everyone else. Those are great photos! The second one should be made into a poster with the words at the bottom--" Do Hard Things". I think all of us who have followed Zac's voyage around the world would buy it and hang it somewhere in our home. Those of us who have crossed an ocean in a small sailboat understand the meaning of that picture.
Thank you for your great part in this grand adventure. You should write a book also.

Hello All,

Most of the people in the US and many people all around the world had a shocking discovery yesterday. First we find out that Farrah passed. We had a three or four hour delay and found out that Michael Jackson just died, what a shock. I truly feel sad for both the family and friends of the deceased. The world has lost two famous icons on the same day.

Looking at yesterdays news events only makes me realize how Zac has been protected throughout his entire journey. So many things could have gone massively wrong but DID NOT. The love of this parents, immediate family, friends, and everyone here truly amazes me. During these times we should realize how important life really is. Take NOTHING for granted. We live in a frail world and circumstances could change a persons life at the drop of a dime.

Perhaps we should all take up a collection to buy Jen a big camera?

Her mini camera and mini pictures are great, but require a magnafying glass to see. At least with my ancient eyes.

I can barely make out that chase boat along side Intrepid. Who that?

It's along side Intrepid as she's pulling into the berth (picture on Jen's site). It's an interesting looking little boat, seems very wide and flat. But alas the two pictures provided are too small to see.

WE LOVE YOU JEN !!! :-)))

How old is she, she shore is mighty purrty?

It is very frustrating that this blog has not been updated since Tuesday. I've been very worried about him and the Intrepid and the long silence made me think the worst. Now I read that elsewhere he says he has left port?

No where on the main site (that I could find) is there a link to the Facebook page. It isn't right that the update be there and not here, the place that is so well linked to from the main site, the place so many of us turn to every day (often several times a day) for information.

Yes, I know folks are busy. Yes, I know it is a hectic, trying, crazy, nail-biting, blood-pressure-raising, nearing the end now kind of time for Zac and his family. And it is nearly as (ditto the above) for the fans who have followed him since he left port. The vast majority of us may never meet Zac but that makes our worry no less valid.

An update here soon would be greatly appreciated.
