Turtle Bay

Position: 07/04/09 0300Z 27 41.449N 114 52.904W

After my tacking marathon of the past few days I decided to turn into Turtle Bay and let some wind pass by and get a good night's sleep. I dodged my way through the rocks and sea weed around the entrance to the bay and dropped the anchor.

I caught a local panga into shore and got some groceries and fresh food. Weather permitting, I will head out at first light tomorrow. Today is the second 4th of July I have spent out of the US and being anchored alone in Mexico in no way compares to burning off my eyebrows with friends.

I am only 400 miles from Marina del Rey now. This is really beginning to feel like the last leg.

I'm going to grab some sleep now. I've been running on 4 scattered hours of sleep per night and bashing seas for the past week.

Cheers,
Zac

Zac, it's 91 degrees at the south end of the Baja, and it's 63 degrees in Turtle Bay and back at home. Looks like you might get a nice southerly behind you for a few days.

Only 400 miles! Wow, it's really starting to feel like reality now. How fantastic is that! What are we all going to do when it's over?

I hope everyone who has checked into Zac's blog will buy the DVD, buy the book, buy whatever new T-shirts are available, and donate to the cause so the Sunderland family can get out of debt! Zac and his family deserve it.

I can't wait for the homecoming! I'll take lots of photos (not professional ones like Jen), but my Canon 10D can capture some great shots, and I'll share them.

Well Zac, I get the feeling that you won't be alone the last few miles into Marina Del Rey. I bet loads of people at stocking their sailboats and getting ready to sail out to meet you!

Here comes the Cavalry!!

Rest, repair (or just tidy up the boat and the Captain) and re-set those sails. Marina Del Rey is on the horizon!

Namaste~~~

Pulling into Turtle Bay for some rest....great

Stocking up on fresh food....super great

Calling you parents to let them know you might not be home for dinner because you're sailing around the world....priceless!

Get some well deserved rest Zac, recharge, and sail those last 400 miles home!

Keeping you in prayer, be safe and have fun~~~~~~~~~~~_/)

Zac----You might consider stopping at Cat harbor on Catalina the last night if the timing is right. You could get a nice hot shower in town and a good nights sleep before that very long home coming day. People won't bother you much on that side of the island and you could stop at Doug's Reef and get a cold one as a pre celebration. Just a thought.

Dear Zac, Hope you had a great 4th...even alone & yes...you are on your last leg, but actually your 1st..your best leg. Home. Writing from my Mom's in Fl. She's watching out for you, too. Desi's watching from Atlanta while we're gone. Sending a message to Praxis next...hope you like it, even if you decide not to use it. Having a terrible time finding connections here. We'll send a message on Mon. nite. Luffing in Lakeland, rather stormy here, too. Mimi & Desi

And I thought you were overcome with guilt for not having your air horn so you made straight for port. You know the horn would make a nice announcement to the crowds that you are indeed back at MDR so you might want to buy two.

As a kid our ski boat did not have a horn so we had to buy the cans. Along with my two brothers it is amazing that we have any hearing left considering the number of times we would blow that horn at the back of an unsuspecting head.

@ Laura

I'm not sure there are new shirts. I just remember reading something about them on the blog, but it was a while back. I think they could sell a bundle if there are new shirts and they are ready in time for the homecoming.

Hi again Zac!
So close!!! Are you ready for the madness that will surely be there to greet you? Prior to your "final approach" into MDR, I hope you are able to take a few quiet moments to reflect on this past year...this fabulous journey that you have experienced and taken us all on.

As always, blessings!

Zac,

Sorry that you missed another 4th of July, but if you have seen one you have seen enough. They don't change much. I do hope you have been keeping up with national news as much as possible. There have been a number of celebrity deaths in the news as of late. The most prominent being Michael Jackson. I am sure you must have heard.
Seems like the whole world has heard.

Continue on but hurry home.

Zac, that's hilarious that the coast guard wanted to write you up for not having a life ring--I loved how you talked them down outta that one--who'd throw it to you?! haha!

I'm so bummed that your ETA is during the week that I'll be out of town. I was at the stern as you pushed off out of MDR and have read all of your blogs. Was looking forward to seeing you come back in. Ah well, will have to try to catch it on the Zac-Cam in the marina!

What an honor to have shared your journey! Thanks for all of your sharing!

I just saw the piece on the Nightly News...way cool to see you in action and to also good to finally see and hear your dad discuss the mental and physical challenges you all face on this incredible journey!
I leave in the morning to go to Telluride,Colorado with some friends to go climb up Wilson Peak a 14,000 footer outside of town and I have to think how much fun it is to go do something exciting with friends and you having to endure all of what you have completed with no one to personally share the experience with, although the satellite phone is the next best thing.

Take care and have a safe and fruitful final into California!

Glory be to God for giving you the idea of this trip and the safety to you during it!

Bless you.
