Zac's Return Info
Hello All,
There have been a lot of questions regarding Zac's return lately. This post is meant to get everyone up to date. Zac is scheduled to return to Fisherman's Village, Marina del Rey on Tuesday July 14th at 10:00am.

There is ample parking around the Village which is one of the reasons why we chose to have him return there. Not only is there parking outside the Village but also across the street and down the street as well.
Brief Overview of Schedule:
10:00 Zac arrives
10:30 News Conference
11:15 Zac mingles and meets public
12:00 One on one media interviews with Zac
All media inquiries should go to teamzac@pinkstongroup.com

Wow 9 days to go 400 miles? Sounds like Zac is going to rest up before he gets home - which is probably a really good idea!
This is MOST Fantastic news! Thx Lady Marianne for posting it. Now comes my decision to join the festivities in person or merely watch online :\
In either case, I wish/pray Capt Zac! enjoys a safe & speedy voyage home.
Thx to everyone, Team Sunderland, ALL the supporters & especially the ZacPac. Without EVERYONE's support this fantastic voyage never would have been possible nor be able to have been completed.
(wipes tear from eye) Gonna miss following along, as well as piping in now & then.
Bear HUGS y'all!

Way to go Zac! 10 days and counting. My son, Capt Adam Pickett, has 11 days left on his 15 month tour of Iraq. Time to celebrate and praise God for yours and Adam's safe return!

How exciting! I totally wish I could be there. You're just happening to get back on my birthday and what an honor to have you arrive back on my birthday. I'll definitely be celebrating here for you =)
Marianne,
I was just sitting here plotting Zac's most recent positions and figuring his distances per day, trying to estimate his arrival, when your post popped up.
Thanks so much for updating us. This is getting so EXCITING! Now that I have a date I can plan my trek across the desert to MDR.
Go Zac Go!

Wonderful news. I'm superstitious so will hold off the congratulations till Mike is safe and sound in MDR.
Are there any plans for a welcome in WV?
Like 100's of us bloggers around the world, we will miss "tuning in" to Mikes adventures.
That is great news, get on up that coast and into port Zac!

What great news. We only have nine days until Zac returns. I'm sure everyone will be sick on the 14th from work but somehow will be at Fisherman's Village for Zac return. It will be great to see everyone there and to finally see Zac in person again.
Please let us know if we'll have some kind of a get together afterwords. I did respond to the email address you posted on the blog a few weeks ago but have not heard anything as of yet.
Anxiously Awaiting Zac's Return,

Bakersfield is 99 today. Im here from Alaska and enjoying the heat!(not!!)Zac's arrival time is officially here (giving him some room for any ripples, plus time to chill before heading in.
Talked with Marianne this afternoon and she asks folks coming in to Fisherman's Village on the 14th to arrive around 8 for good seats. If you need accomodations, we are still in touch with a local hotel to set up a block of rooms for a special zac pac rate. I will be monitoring welcomehomezac@yahoo.com to see if there is interest in rooms. The hotel has asked we book a block of ten rooms to receive the discount. Rate would be @109/night. Please let us know if you are interested in a room first before contacting the hotel. After we have 9 more interested people, we'll get the deal from the hotel in the form of a "code" when making reservations online or in person.

We are planning a zac pac get-to-gether (see schedule) and need a head count from everyone from the blog that will attend on the 14th.
So, finally, pls RSVP Again to

Baking in Bakersfield, and looking forward to meeting you all!

Thanks for picking a fixed time for the arrival, it makes it a lot easier for the Zacpac to be there. It's going to be so exciting! Marianne, you'll have to find a way to help Zac transition to a more sedate way of life (that may not be easy).

Mike's surely on his way home. Which ever one you mean and which ever the two of those Mike's take.

All good Mike ... er David, we tend to mix and match the older we get.
One thing our Zac's for sure learnt.
@ Mike..So i lost the info on the hotel:/.. are we still doing that? I have about a 2hr. drive and i think i would rather come in the night b4 than fight traffic and worry about missing Zac's arrival..i will also send you a note on the welcome home e-mail address..Thanks :}

Woo Hoo! I cannot wait to see your arrival!
This is so exciting!!! I don't know what I'll do every morning after the 14th without you to follow. So Mom, how excited are you to see your boy??? My 15 year old just came home from being gone 9 days and it was great to see him. I cannot imagine how you are feeling right now! My prayers will be with you as you reunite as a family unit!

Is there any plan for Zac to make a US Customs stop in San Diego? If so, can the date/time be posted so that those Zac Packers like myself who live in San Diego may go see him at the Customs dock?
Colin,
A Zac follower since day 1.
oh no wish he would come home during a Saturday so I can head out and meet capt Zac...
Will have to be there in Sprit :)
You're almost home Zac!!!

Plenty of time to rock up to some local cantina for a few Cabo Wabo's in Ensenada!
I've really enjoyed reading the Zac's blog and throwing in my nonsensical 2 cents when I could.
Hi Marianne
Great news! Hope to be there for history in the making.
Did you get the picture I mailed?
All the best

great job! SO I was wondering are you gonna make it by your birthday? hope you do would be a great thing to do!
There's a great front-page article in the LA Times this morning -- here's the link to it on their website: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-zac-sunderland6-2009jul06,0,6103005.story
I've been following Zac's blog almost from the start and truly admire not only Zac's courage and determination but also the courage of his parents to let him follow his dream. What an adventure and learning experience he's had these past 13 months. I hope my own teenagers are able to find something they can become as passionate about, whatever it is.
Zac, I hope the rest of your journey is uneventful and smooth sailing. It's been a pleasure reading your blog all year.
Maybe you should invite the Coast Guard?? Just kidding.
Michele from Boston
Reading the official announcement of Zac's return had me so excited and so wanting to be there, that for a very brief moment I forgot it is also the day my own son comes home from spending 2 years in Panama. I suppose I should be at the airport to greet my son, rather than in MDR. Of course! What a wonderful, exciting day. And it's my birthday, too! Could very well be the most exciting one I've had.
Please keep us informed as to how to watch Zac's arrival online. Will there be a live feed?
Following Zac's progress, almost daily, has compensated for my own sons' absence and less frequent communications. Thanks for all efforts to let us track Zac.
Congratulations to the entire Sunderland family on a great accomplishment! It truly has been a team effort.

I love your Bostonian humor
@Zac bet you've been waiting for this for a while, 50 miles a day is easy, heck I did it yesterday in Tahoe.

Well, I will just catch him live on the web cam or other media before my family hops on a plane out of the country... Glad I won't miss it, but sorry that we can't be there in person! I'm so excited for your whole family, Marianne. What an amazing accomplishment for Zac and all of you. All of you ZacPac that get to be there in person -- cheer loud of all of out here!
Peace, Your Oklahoma Well-Wisher
Can't believe this adventure is almost over, but so thankful that it will end happily and successfully for our AWESOME Zac and the whole Sunderland family!
What a great time I've had following you Zac since before you left MDR last June. I'm sure there are TONS of us proud supporters out there who've followed you from the start but who've never commented on your blog before. But, it's been a lot of fun to check in every day and read the thoughts of the regular Zac Pac bloggers and to live through all your ups and downs (well, the downs were no fun). Like everyone else, I'll be missing this experience when it's over but following along with you on your next one.
I live in the O.C. now but grew up with our dad teaching my brother, sister, and me to sail in and around MDR. It's a special place for sure. I live 5 minutes from Dana Point Harbor, which I love, but it's not the same as MDR.
So, my question is this: On the Live Webcam shot, there is an empty dock between the vessels Spitfire and La Mer. Are you going to tie up there or is the shot just so that we can see you coming down the channel and then you will dock elsewhere?
Thanks for the ride! It's been awesome!!

Thanks, Sue/Newport Beach, for sharing the LA Times link with us -- they have done such a great job following Zac. As a tennis fan, I love that he shared the front page with Roger Federer -- two great epic stories.
By the way, is the fact that Zac left on June 14 have anything to do with scheduling the return for July 14? The dates tie nicely, both being the 14th...
Peace, Your Oklahoma Well-Wisher
Dear Zac, you're so close you can plan!!! It's here! I'm so excited I can hardly sit still. An area with no connection to send messages is awful. Reminds me of you...out there, so far away. So close, yet so far. What's the # of people attending? I know it will be a fabulous success, celebration!!! Who's ordered the In Out Burgers? Hope you have a great nite. I've missed sending messages. You must be too excited to read! Atlanta flying home, from the airport!!! Mimi & Desi
That's great news!!! i can't wait to see Zac!
There are 11 great photos with the LA Times article. I do not think the gallery was there before. At least when I clicked the one when the link to the article was first posted, only one photo available. Now 11 good ones. Someone will get a kick out of the shot of the boom :-)

Cool PR from the ASA detailing what Zac has achieved. Seems buried on their site and not hit MSM yet:

If anyone's interested :-) Saito-san is back in action ! What a mess, boat held hostage for rescue fees. Now stuck due to weather down at Cape Horn:

Awesome article & pictures in the LA Times!!! I almost had heart failure when i saw the boom..for a sec i thought it was my message lol... very cool for the Nash family though.
Hey Zac, nice shorts...I think you should auction them off on Tue....well maybe you should wash them first haha.
My husband and i will be coming out on the evening of the 13th and staying at the MDR hotel...i feel a fever coming on for Tue so we took the day off lol can't wait!!

Wow! it's nearly over. Too bad I won't be able to see it! I've got work and I cannot take off.
:-(
When you reach MDR, I'll be there in spirit, Zac!!!

:)
hey Zac
A year back I read about you and your family as to how you had a mission to complete your journey in a year and really got interested. Through the year have been on and off the site finding out where you were. Today it is terrific to know that you will be home soon and you achieved what you set out to do. You are an ispiration for youngsters around the world. You should be the American Teen Idol. Hard work and determination. Kudos to your parents for giving you the right values and letting you do what you set out to you.
