The Latest

Heading back to Intrepid this morning to catch up on some maintenance. It is so familiar on Intrepid - she still feels like home to me. Every time I go down there, it seems to smell stronger of diesel and boat smell. Funny thing is every time Dad goes down there he says it is smelling better!

Our meetings with William Morris Endeavor are going really well. It is good to have some quality people behind me at this stage in the game for sure. I have been busy with meetings and interviews and working on some soul searching for the book.

Someone asked if I had heard from some of the veteran solo sailors: Robin Graham, Tania Aibi etc...I have heard from both of them and from Mike Perham, Jessica Watson and Jesse Martin's mom. They are a great group of people. It is awesome to part of this group of amazing people.

My brother and sister are sailing to raise money for the Westlake Nautical Foundation that supports youth sailing on our area. I will attempt to attach a flyer with info. You should be able to click on the flyer to enlarge it.

If you are interested in supporting Toby & Jessie contact my mom at marianne@zacsunderland.com and she will get you the info.

All for now, gotta get back to work here.

Cheers,
Zac

Zac,
Thanks so much for thinking of all of us and letting us know what's going on with you...it's greatly appreciated! Sounds like you are very busy, I wonder how many times you've wished you were back at sea! But seriously...it appears you are adjusting well and making the most of it. It's great that you've heard from Robin and the rest of the adventurers. I read Robin and Jesse's books right after you left, now I can't wait for yours, it will mean so much more after following your whole trip and meeting you the day you returned. So again, thanks for keeping us "Zac-pakers" in the loop.
Your Houston well wisher,
Barbara

Hello Zac,
I just read ESPN Magazine and the article this month was very well written and the pics were A-OK!
I'm glad you finally got your cheeseburger (double?)?!!!!
Question: Are you going to play football this fall?
The college football season is just a month away for my alma mater -- NC State (Sept. 3rd, Thursday night against South Carolina ESPN at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh)....
Being that you were on your sailboat for a year, I guess it does seem like home! That's kind of weird, but really it isn't. Do you miss being out there on the sea alone again?
Tell us how your friends have responded and what you're up to.
Take care, God Bless!

Thanks for a post, Zac. It is really nice that you are staying connected. We Be Family too for sure. So glad you attached the flyer to help support Toby and Jessie. That will be fun. After a year at sea with you and then watching the movie Morning Light, I realize how important sailing is in the lives of our youth. I want to support in whatever way I can.

I have found it so encouraging in my life to be in touch with several of my heroes. When i was battling cancer a few years ago I heard from Lance Armstrong and my friend Chris Klug. The messages they sent are still on my "Wall of Encouragement" and I still draw strength from them. I know you will receive such encouragement from the group of folks who even attempt what you have taken on and conquered. You are amazing, Zac. I wish you the best everyday.
My goal for this upcoming year (I start my new year on my birthday in June) is to Do Hard Things. Thanks for that.

Enjoy your Sabbath. You are in my prayers, Kathy Bend, OR

It's great to hear from you again. Since you have not been inside Intrepid for a while I'm sure when you went back in it smelled really strong. The smell was always there it's just that you have been away for a while and you really don't realize it when you spend so much time inside during your journey.

Glad all is going well with William Morris. Get that soul searching inspiration flowing for the book.

It's great you heard from Robin, Tania, Mike, Jessica, and Jesse's Mom. What a great group of company you have there.

Keep us informed,

Zac-
I do a lot of music concert bookings in Alaska as part of my job. The Wm Morris agency is, and has been, one of the top notch agencies for music and publushing in the world. You will be in good hands, but read all the fine print. Tell your mom that I would like to support your family in the Westlake event. She knows how to reahc me. Take Care, and HAVE FUN! You deserve it!

Hey Zac, Good to hear from you, even though it's not daily. Obvious, there's more going on...on land, now that you've landed. Everyone, either, needs or wants a moment with Zac. As for Intrepid? I remember the smells...the memories. Once it took about 2 days & I should have just shoved the hose down below and filled her (Silver Moon) up. Intrepid will eventually air out. Just in time for you to head out. I was thinking...is there some lost treasure out there in the Artic? Something that needs to be found? I was reading about Lake Vostok...aliens? The very 1st time I've ever pulled up a sight & it said "forbidden"; definitely stirs up curious goerge. I heard from Brett yesterday. He says he's not the Brett in the photo with you & your friends, but says they're working furiously on the doc. Massive, like the ocean, I imagine. Stay well & luck to Toby & Jessie. Always glad to hear... from Atlanta, Mimi & Desi

HI Zac,
I wondered if you missed Intrepid your home away from home! Do you ever want to go out and just spend the night on the water? I'm sure it's been fun but in some ways difficult to adjust to daily life on dry land!

Thanks for keeping us up on things, I for one am so happy that y'all have choosen to keep this blog afloat! (no pun intended) :)

Good luck to Toby and Jesse, we've been having fund raisers too at our club for the JR. sailors. Who knew those 420's were SO expensive!

Blessings to all the Sunderlands! Thanks again for keeping us up to date!!

Zac--are you bored to be home yet? Don;t you yearn to just take off on another journey? Are you feeling cramped with being in a house surrounded by so many people?? You have to be feeling some sense of claustrophia being on land instead of in your boat? I miss reading about your travels--its like getting to the end of a good book and then thinking "now what". Is it like that?

Zac,
When I got home from my year gone to Hawaii in "Summer Wish" the boat had become my home. I had left from my bedroom in my parents house sraight out to sea and that was my "launch" to manhood. I never returned to the house except for short stays. I ended up living on a sailboat (a total of 3) for the next 25 years until I finally married and moved back ashore. Mine is probaply an odd story but the Robin Graham syndrome got into my blood and never went away. I will always long to stand a sailboat straight out to sea. I love the smell of old sailboat in the morning. It smells like adventure.

Hi Zac,
My name is Terah and I'm going to be moving to Majuro in about 6 months. Since you seem to have gotten somewhat familiar with the place, do you have any tips or suggestions that may prove to be useful for me?
Let me know, thanks.

Nice blog, we think that you are fearless going out into the rough seas of the world, even facing pirates. by the way we're from a school in England if you come here make sure to visit Milton Keynes and long meadow school (that's our school!)

How long did you have to save all your money for your boat? Why did you want to go round the world anyway?

From 2 pupils from long meadow school:)
