Got home to Thousand Oaks after an awesome run down the coast to Florida. We had heavy weather, light whether, wind on the nose and wind behind us. I think Abby really learned a lot about the boat. We loaded it on a ship in Fort Lauderdale and it should be arriving around the first week in December. Till then she is working out, going to meetings and interviewing as she tries to get the last sponsors on board.
I've been busy with school, the gym and still going to lots of meetings. As for my next adventure, I'm training for an Everest climb and also planning out a possible North West Passage sailing route and a motorcycle trip down to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.
Well turning 18 on the 29th finally gonna get my driver's licence.

Great to hear ZACster...! Keep positive on the new adventures. Everest sounds amazing. This would be an amazing journey for you. As for a North West Passage... Will you be leaving around when your Sister does or sometime after her return?

Happy to hear the latest from you, Zac. I like the sound of those next adventures. One of the most awesome documentaries I have seen is "The Long Way Down" Two blokes from the UK rode their motorcycles from northern most Scotland to Cape Town. Rent it and enjoy it Zac. It was the trip of a life time for sure. I think you and your family would enjoy it.

Everest? There's no adventure left in Everest. Pay a guide, they drag to you the top, hopefully you dont die, yippee. It's incredibly over done these days, and it's creating a serious problem in terms of environmental and cultural impacts in the region. Your other ideas for adventure sound much more organic.

The Northwest Passage has been done by thousands, mostly on research ships and naval vessels, since Amundsen took Gjoa through. But a circumnavigation of the Arctic Ocean, with stops along the way to get the feel for the Inuit and Laplanders and Greenlanders and others living around it would be another book in itself. So much there to see and discover. So many changes going on. That is a very interesting place.
I've followed your trip around the world. Some adventure! 10/24 you said "I'm not opposed to college for a purpose, not just to go." The purpose of undergrad education is to get educated, not usually to train for a professional level job. That comes in post grad work. Young people don't often understand this. You learn to think, to express yourself, to write, and so much more; you become more sophicated about the world. I've never heard anyone say they regretted getting their education! You certainly have learned a great deal and are very articulate for an 18-yr-old. You don't want to sound like an 18yr old giving speeches about your adventures when you're 35, though. Don't put your college education off too long.
Everest would be great, but how about a different Himalayan peak almost as high but less tourist-crazy. It would be more adventuresome. How about McKinley? It's probably more dangerous. I know a top notch guide service for Everest and any other peaks.

I just read about you on Jessica Watson's website so thought i'd hop on over & check out your story Zac. Wow, you youngin's really freak me out with your courage & determination. Congratulations on all you have achieved so far, I can only begin to imagine what amazing adventures lie ahead of you. All of us Aussies are extremely proud of our Jessica & are following her every step of the way. Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame. Now it's time to get your GED and go to college. College has changed since your parents were there (I assume they were since they are home schooling). Many colleges do not provide specific knowledge for a career until post graduate work. A general college experience combined with community service and study abroad (an intense study abroad including language study and culture immersion) is a good education. Go for it - it may very well be the greatest adventure you encounter!

On pins and needles about what you'll be conquering or exploring next. Even though, as many say, Everest has been done a lot, it is obviously no cakewalk and is undoubtedly a life-changing experience. If you get proper training and think you're up to it, and if that's what YOU want to do----GO FOR IT!!!!
If you have the time, a good book to read/skim is "High Crimes: The Fate of Everest in an Age of Greed", by Michael Kodas, published last year. It's a page-turner (actually a shocking expose) about the backstabbing and thievery that now goes on among the various teams and expeditions that head to Everest every spring. You really get a feel for the dark underside of "business" at the base of and on the way up the mtn. Stolen oxygen tanks? Stepping over dying people? It's all there. I read it in a weekend.
But back to the present--Happy Birthday again, Zac, and "happy birthday" to you, Marianne & Laurence. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. (We're having leftovers again tonite--my kids are about to kill me!)

So we have all Written to you.I am pleased to here that you are making a DVD and writing a book i am going to buy them (when they come out)!I hope you are going to be braking a record in snowboarding. Ive heard you are going to be limbing Everest i really do hope you can do that aswell. I'm looking forward about earing that you have started the climb. If u finish you will have accomplished a very big thing. You have may fans that want to hear about your arrival aswell.
