Surfing the Atlantic
I spoke with Zac yesterday. He had managed to get his sat phone antenna to work and was able to get a call out - though a rough one. The crew were enjoying Wild Eyes' speeds and were a few hundred miles out of Fort Lauderdale. Zac was enjoying being back at sea and was pretty excited to have made, at one point, 24 knots surfing down a wave.

WhooHoo! Go Wild Eyes!!!
Thanks for the update, Marianne - I received a DVD-update email from "admin" (rabellanes@bandacorp.com) on 30-October so presumably that's the one you're referring to?
It's great to hear about Zac getting excited... just hope he doesn't become envious of Abby & Wild Eyes to the point of resenting/neglecting Intrepid - God forbid!
Just to let everybody know, here in the UK Mike Perham's documentary "The School Boy Who Sailed Around The World" aired for the first time on mainstream terrestrial TV Channel 4 last night... 100 minutes long, including commercial breaks.
Lots of previously unseen onboard footage with audio commentary overlaid by Mike, his mum & dad, [ex?]girlfriend and others.
To be fair, although no mention was made of the mishap at Miraflores, it was otherwise remarkably "honest", showing Mike stripped bare (literally as well as metaphorically! LOL) in terms of emotions [the harrowing lows as well as the hilarious highs] etc. AND included input from some of his harshest critics.
Oh, and of course Zac was referred to several times (but not enough to satisfy me - I secretly harboured hopes of some video footage of Mike & Zac together in Cape Town).
Anyway, hopefully the hurdles with Zac's DVD can eventually be overcome & we can all look forward to some even more spectacular insight into this epic adventure that is solo circumnavigation (irrespective of age).
Just a bit curious who the Sunderlands have surrounded themselves with. Doesn't seem that those people have the same goal as the family. Impressive that Mike Perham has been able to get his info out and continue on another mission without missing a step. I hope that this kind of family adventuring doesn't put the Sunderlands in the poor house (if they aren't already there).
Hi again Zac...
Pleeeeease tell me there will be a 2010 calendar?!?
Blessings,
Marie

Zac singing? Yikes! Better stick to sailing :-)

It's actually quite entertaining. Biggest thing that stands out is his seemingly reluctance to actually go. That and the complete opposite of his daily blog entries which were quite suspicious with constant syrupy up beat entries all the time, when in fact, right there on the video, he was weeping more than sailing :-)
Good fun though and well done to him.
