News from Land

A new year and very different than last year. This time last year when I was rounding the Cape of Good Hope south of Africa. These days there has been a lot of work going on on Abby’s boat and almost all the time I can spare I'm down there. I've also been doing a minor refit on Intrepid mostly resealing and sanding. We replaced another bulkhead and have had to rewire some stuff that we didn’t have time to do before I left.

My senior year in highschool is also going well. I've got US History, Health, Government and Economics this year then I graduate. The DVD has been a really complicated process but its finally coming together and should be out in about a month.

As far as adventures go I'm aiming to climb Everest next season but right now I'm setting up a dirt biking trip down thru south America to Ushuaia the southernmost city in the world by way of the Darién Gap. I have also been doing a lot of research on the Northwest Passage - the ice pass above Canada and Alaska.

I've been speaking here and there which has been great. Sometimes I speak to yacht clubs like at the end of this month I will be heading out to Detroit to the Bay View Yacht Club to talk about my trip. Next month is the Adventures in Travel Expo in Los Angeles and the Brentwood Academy in Tennessee.

Cheers,
Zac

Good to hear of your possible plans. You really like your excitement. Going through the Darien Gap could be worse than meeting pirates on the high seas.

"It is a thick primary rain forest that separates the PanAmerican highway. It is plagued with fighting between drug lords and Colombian guerillas. While it is possible to visit, it is highly not recommended. There have been massacres, kidnappings, and poaching going on in this unstable region."

Take some armed guards with you while travelling here and in some parts of South America. Good luck.

Great to hear from you Zac and to know what your thoughts are for the immediate future.
The studies seem to be going well....excellent.
You're certainly getting around that big country of yours....amazing opportunities.
Wonder how you will be feeling when Abby finally leaves???
Takes me back to your departure and the months after, following you daily.
I hope the very best for Abby and know that she will be well supported.

Thanks for the post Zac. I have been missing you. Can't get your home page to show any content but can get to the blog. Keep filling us in. The Dirt Bike trip sounds great. Have you ever seen the DVD "The Long Way Down"? If you ever have the time, watch it - two guys rode from the northern tip of Scotland to the southern most city in Africa. It is really amazing and might give you an idea for your next DVD and trip.

Carry on and keep on adventuring and sharing with us. We love you and support you always.

A Proud Zac Packer,

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your Documentary. I work in the film industry so know how hard it is to get anything done in L.A. lots of promises and little action.
Making a documentary is a very complex business and I'm not really surprised it is taking you this long.
Be extremely careful with the legalities I know more people that have bought houses with copyright infringement lawsuits than they have selling anything.
I'm sure it will be an excellent documentary so take your time better to have geat video a little late than a bad one quickly.
Trust in your team to do the right thing and make the right decisions. From what I've seen of your trip videos your video team is excellent and made some of the better promotional video's I've seen.

I'm really looking forward to it but no hurry.

Hi Zac,

So, how's the book coming? I can hardly wait! I hope to have a whole collection of 'youngest to round' adventure books for my (grandkids??) to read.

Still amazed....

Zac-
When the DVD is ready, We'd like to
arrange your visit to Alaska. Give a few talks, sell and autograph some DVD's. A couple Yacht clubs and some schools are highly interested. Just need to nail down your speaking fees and the travel costs.....lemme know.
Go, Abby!

Congradulations on graduating this year!!

All of these adventures sound pretty epic in every way, but I was wondering if you ever considered working at Camp Emerald Bay? You mentioned it before on your travels and EB is an advenutre of its own.

food for thought.
