The Route

Many people have been asking for a map of Zac's route. Until the web site is finished getting some new graphics there will be a link at the bottom of the Home page that leads to his itinerary. This will be on it's own page soon with comments on how the route was chosen etc.
Thanks for coming!
Marianne

Hi Zac

Look in the mirror and give yourself a big smile! You CAN do it. It's a shame you didn't have a few days fair wind to start you off but hey, that's sailing. The record wouldn't be worth going for if it was easy.

Let's have a more up-beat post tomorrow.

Might this only be a let down after a glorious send off? I retired a year ago from teaching. They gve me such a great send off, I wouldn't dare go back now. Maybe that was their plan! I'm cheering for you from way over here in Maine, sitting in the rain and wondering how I'm gonna get this old body tanned in this crap. But at least I have to push the rocker to get the sensation you're getting hour after hour. Bless your heart.

If it was EASY it wouldn't be worth the effort.
You are a strong young man and can do this!!! The love of your family, friends and supporters will see you through. Keep praying, read your bible and turn your trip over the the Lord.
Know you are loved.

Thanks for taking the time to keep us all up to date on your travels.

It seems like just about whenever I sail out of San Diego I spend some period of time without wind, slowly drifting in circles, and enjoying the swells from all angles. I've never had to deal with your eight foot swells with no wind, though.

Hi Zac,
I live in Newbury Park and have been antipating following your adventure ever since I read about you in the Acorn. I am a new "sailor", currently taking sailing lessons out of Channel Islands. You are doing a really courageous thing. Especially being so young. I read Tania Aebi's book Maiden Voyage years ago and was so amazed by her. My daughter is 21 and I can't imagine her doing something like that. (I would never let her, I'd be so worried!) Your parents are brave letting you go and awesome to support your dream. But I gotta tell ya, I started feeling seasick just reading about you bobbing around out there like that. I hope that doesn't last long for you. Do you ever get seasick? Probably not. Well I am excited about following along daily and will be sending good thoughts and well wishes your way.

Hi Zac

What an awesome opportunity our Lord has given you, and parents that trust and respect the skills HE has gifted you with! This is Mrs. Sullivan from TPCS (you were in service club back in '04-'05 when I was the parent/advisor) What a privilege it is to track with you on your sea adventure and an even greater privilege to be keeping you in prayer during your trip--your parents are right--you can do this and God's word reminds us of this in Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Take care Zac Mrs. Sullivan

I remember my passage between Panama and Galapagos being in the very same frame of mind as you are. Thinking we never gonna get there...and we did! It just took few days longer than I was expecting (16 days). When we touched land I completly forgot what my mind had been through and it was soooooooo worst it!
You are brilliant...You'll make it Zak! From Odile (in MDR, I was there for your departure)

Look to the adventures ahead. I have found it helpful to not dwell on what we are leaving behind, but concentrate on what awaits. It will take a little while to adjust to being on your own, but know this you are not, we are all here with you. Full sheets to the wind (when it comes)good luck & god speed. Troylt

Zac:

Hang in there!! I saw your story on the Today show last week and it inspired me to send you a bit of money to help support your efforts. I work with young adults with disabilities and I always encourage them to do whatever they are capable of accomplishing. I can imagine your discouragement at the lack of wind and the constant rocking. Hang in there! You know there are beautiful winds and skies in the days ahead. We are all following your journey and are praying for you daily. Hang in my friend!

This is probably a stupid question, but why will you bypass Hawaii? Looking at your route, it would seem natural to stop there being that this is the longest portion of the trip.

Hi Zac.
Up here in the Evergreen State.
Wishing you safe travels and good winds. Keep strong and trust your instincts and training. You can do this. Like many have already said, if this was easy more people would have done it. And what's the challenge in that? My Grandfather use to say:"You can't win by a nose, if you don't stick out your neck."
We are going to enjoy your trip right along with you. Safe travels young man.
Our thoughts are prayers are with you.
Stay strong. And God Bless you.

Hello Zak, I'm Sister Krista Mote, a Franciscan Sister from Pennsauken, NJ.
I want you to know that I will be praying for you all the way. I admire your courage and also that of your parents for encouraging you to follow your dream.
I love sailing too, but just in the protected back bays along the Jersey Coast. God bless you.
