That was quite a show!

Great to see zac return to the Pacific.

By the Way: I'm assuming that whatever link that had the virus has been removed from the thread, correct? (So others can't get tripped up with it. What type of virus was it (does it have a name?) in case anyone hit the link and needs to do a remedy.)

Hi Marianne. Happy Anniversary to you and Laurence. An anonymous poster put the link below up this morning. Unlike the two youtube links you posted, this has about 40 individual screen shots. I found it very hard to watch the youtube videos since they moved so fast, and trying to pause, look, play, pause, look, etc., was a hassle. Note the poster's comment that this is a zip file that must be unzipped, and, that you should view the pictures from the last to the first, not first to last. Here is a copy of the post:

Here the screen caps, both hi and low rez. View them numerically backwards :-)

Large full size pics, 7 mb zip file.

So Zac was attached to the "Cat" the entire time through the canal. The "Cat" looks like a big brother with Zac under its wing. =) Very cool.

God Bless all those that helped make his Panama Canal journey such a quick success!

Thx to all who were able to capture this. Was able to see live up to point where water started to go down & I switched resolutions so could zoom in - wasn't able to get to see the rest, but greatly appreciated the post comments. Something tells me TPC site crew weren't expecting anywhere near the volume of hits we ZacPac'ers generated!

None-the-less, I did send a short thx email to let them know, I for one, really appreciated all their w*rk in front of the cameras & everyone behind them who allowed us all to be able to partake in Capt Zac!'s passage.

My co-w*rkers kept lol'ing at me as I couldn't sit still I was so excited (yet I noticed a couple were watching over my shoulder) :)

Thx also go to my boss who let me watch/read during my lunch hour (okay 1 3/4 hrs, but who's counting!). Gonna have to buy her another shirt as a way of thx! :D

Am pumped all over again watching the vid links & zip files - JUST TOO COOL!

Thx y'all & again, thx to Team Sunderland for letting us/me tag along for the ride.

BEAR HUGS!

Very nice! Zac says on FB he's in the Pacific once again...

"Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me"

Just a bit longer; sail safe, stay hydrated...

Cheers, Zac...

What great video footage. I'm hoping the boys were able to get this on video also.

Marianne, thank you so much for letting everyone here be a part of Zac's Panama experience. I know it's a lot of hard work and I really appreciate all the time and effort.

In times like this you just have to love You Tube!!!

Just saw the link to Laurence's company under the link list on the right here. :-) Great website, great testament to his capabilities, great story all round, and great family pictures if anyone is interested. I'll be sure to know who to call if and when I ever need a boat or expert advice on one.

Interesting reading Laurence's backgroundand story. Immediately reminded me of Led Zepplin's "Going to California" :-)

Sir Laurence looking for his Lady Marianne.

Allow me to dedicate the following to the two of you, one day late:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljYkQiIrFtUIt also occurs to me that in this very high tech modern age, the norm appears to plaster boats and sales with anything and everything dot com, sponsors and everything else, combining latest technology with one of the oldest, sailing.

I'd see no reason at this final stage, since it's the norm, why Laurence doesn't emblazon the new sail with "sunyachts.net" for the recognition he deserves on this final leg. How would that be done, stencil and paint or tape?

Go for it, let all the media see upon arrival home.

What's Panama City like? Is it very Americanized having had a tie in all these years? Meaning, will it be the first time Zac can have a Big Mac or Burger King in a year?

Zac,
The insurance industry tells us that most fatal accidents happen within twenty-five miles of the home destination. If this is true, son, be on guard. You are too close to being home to let anything stop you now.

Smooth sailing and Godspeed.

Wow, totally cool being able to watch you in the Panama Canal!

And now you're sorta, home! What, about 3 weeks to go? I can't believe it.

And I think back about the year, and I can't account for anything I did. But you, what a year to remember!!!

It's been so fun to live this with you!

Sage advice Saint Gregory School.

Particularly in sailing. the one time you must stay more alert than ever. All the way into the port in particular (i.e. your drive way if you were in a car). There's no sigh of relief until you switch the car off.

I'm interested in that new sail. the old one last nearly the entire trip. Just like any "garment", the new sail needs to be thoroughly tested before Zac embarks. It's a long haul back north with not much going on for quite a while. Hopefully as with the quality of the sail makers's original sail lasting so long from the get go, this one will have no problems, but I hope it gets a good testing before hand.

And make sure the sat phone battery is charged up !!!! In fact for the miserable 50 dollars, buy a second one and keep it in the charger or charged up or whatever !!!

I sat watching the transit, with tears in my eyes, and a chill running up my spine.
My wife came and saw my face, wracked with emotion, and asked one question, "It's Zac isn't it?"
I could only nod my head.

You see, I am a Dad of a 17 year old son, and a 16 year old daughter. Within the last year my son attempted to end his life, for what he now knows was a foolish reason. But we all are getting better daily.
I am also a scoutmaster in Boy Scouts, so I have influence on many boys from 11 and up.
But to experience this teenagers quest through the internet has continuously amazed, impressed, and astounded this 57 year old man.

I have been lucky enough to get a number of people to join me in being a very small part of this adventure, and we have vicariously enjoyed ourselves for over a year.

I remember when Zac crossed the halfway point. I reminded him and Mom that he was now truly heading home. Even more this day.

So one bit of advice Zac......when you get through the last lock, and round that last bit off land, and are into the open Pacific once again......turn right....and head home, son.

I think Mom needs to pick up the phone, and corral the two boys who are probably whooping it up partyivlle Panama City, , and tell them to give us an update.

Sorry guys. A blog is coming tonight. Zac has been whisked away for a tour of Panama City (actually 2 tours) and has been interviewing this afternoon. He also needs to go over his route home, do minor repairs and major reprovisioning.
No rest for the weary...

Marianne
Thanks once more. Even though i watched the crossing live with all the Zac Packers. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again. Yesterday as i was driving up the street,I found myself smiling at what had occurred and the joy that we all received.

My husband's 17 yr old nephew who was exhibiting inappropriate behavior at home in NY came to AZ to live with us last August. I have been constantly sharing Zac's journey with him as an example of trust, confidence, determination, focus, hardwork and believing in yourself and your capabilites. That when you exhibit these characteristics, people trust and believe in you. On one occasion while i was following Zac's blog, he said to me. "He is only 17 and his parents allowed him to do this"!and i again reiterated all the things i mentioned above.

This afternoon I shared the you tube video with him and my 20 year old daughter and explained that Zac was now on his way back home. My nephew was quite surprised at this and wanted to know how he could do this, again it provided an opportunity for me to talk about preparation and all that it took.

As the mother of 2 girls, 20 and 22, with little knowledge of raising boys, I have been using your son as a model. Thank you again for sharing Zac,
I am sure he will enjoy Panama and the time with Dad.
Will continue to pray for his safe return home

Is it really necessary to sail with such a big american flag? A bit of modesty would be appreciated. Good luck Zac

LOL @ Guido.

The flag is actually only 1' x 3' .

It's just that Zac's boat is only 6 inches long that makes it appear to be an enormous flag. ;-)

@Guido:

I also saw that BIG flag....and remembered that that flag was only 1/2 the size while Zac was in East London-South Africa (I saw it LIVE).

Only explanation: The flag GREW during the second half of the trip.

So did Zac's hair.

So did the number of Zacpackers !

And so did Zac's confidence!
