Welcome to Panama & Goodnight!

Just a brief update from home this morning. Zac arrived safely at Shelter Bay Marina in the early hours of the morning. He had to weave his way through a sea of ships all waiting for their appointments to pass through.

Besides being up all night all was well - Laurence met him on the dock to catch his lines and I believe Zac will be sleeping for most of the early day!

Photos and further information to follow!

Cheers,

Marianne

Nice sailing, Zac.

Wondering, once again, what the wait time will be before transit? I see the Canal can handle 40 vessels a day. So, how long will Zac wait?

It's great to know you are safely into Panama! I hope the dreams are good ones while you are asleep this morning (no dreams of near-collisions with ships!) Looking forward to seeing you arrive at MDR!

Well done, Zac. Can't wait to read your version of your approach and pulling in.

Hope we get to see you traverse the canal on webcam. Make sure you keep your fingers inside the boat....

Great to hear that you finally made it to the Canal! Dang, that last leg was a long one!

I'll be interested in what it finally costs to get through the Canal.

Zac, Don't forget you said something about letting us know when your passing through. Many have the Canal cameras on bookmarks so we can see you pass.
Once again, amazing you made it so far, so well, with so little problems........I jest just a bit.

We all continue to be proud, and awed by your accomplishments. But keep sharp, no time to slack, your almost home.
Sail on when you can, approach the home waters, the family waiting, and the worlds applause.

Having gone through the canal on a sailboat, I can add that determining the exact time a boat will pass through the locks is next to impossible (for those wanting to watch on the webcam). Pleasure vessels are low priority in the canal and can't get in the way of ships paying a quarter of million dollars to go through. Also, it can take up to a couple of weeks to be scheduled and often the scheduled day will change with little notice. However it is an interesting process and a great trip!

Enjoy the trip Zach!

Zac, welcome to Panama !!

For those interested in seeing Zac's transit thru the Panama Canal on the webcams, as the webmaster, I can say we will follow his transit on those cameras where we have control (Miraflores and Centennial Bridge). Of course, this will depend on personnel availability and ongoing canal operations.
