Great few posts of life navigating through the Panama Canal. Thanks Zac, Marianne and everyone who helped give us a picture of the trip. Did I see Intrepid smiling as she headed toward the Pacific?
All prayers will be with Zac and team Sunderland as the pair of them - Zac and Intrepid - head home.

Thanks for the article and video links. It seems like Zac is very busy with all the press, that's great news.
I'm sure you'll be happy when Laurence comes back home. It won't be long before Zac joins you at home too. I'm sure you're getting very excited!!!

I just read in the article from Panama that Zac is going to the Galapagos Islands. I've seen that bit information popping up at a few other articles as well. I wonder where that comes from. Not from Zac's webpage. I guess it would be a nice trip there. The Islands must be great, but that is not Zac's plan, afaik.

Well Zac, it looks like your dream is nearing the finish line.
However from your interview with Cooper Anderson, it looks like you will need a barber before you can do many more interviews.
Probably a clipping even before you get an In N' Out or you might get a few strands with the double/double.
We are all rooting for you and are looking forward to that last mile or so past the MDR breakwater.

Living in the City of Los Angeles and having checked into this site daily since near the beginning I took it upon myself this week to send e-mails to my City Councilman and to Mayor Villaregosa's office to encourage them to recognize Zac's heroic accomplishment! Didn't mean to step on anybody's toes, but even if your PR friends have made contact, supporting arguments don't harm! Eh?

I speculate that the Galapagos might have been named in a loose discussion about his plans up the coast.(Maybe he said something like "I might sail out toward the Galapagos..obviously they are not on the direct home!) If he elects or is routed directly up the coast it will be (in sailing parlance) "all uphill", basically against the prevailing wind and current... a bumpy, wet, uncomfortable ride.
He may choose to sail further out (away from the coast) for a better wind angle (bit of reach instead of sailing close hauled) all the way home.
All just pure speculation from here,

Although your journey is nearly complete,stay vigilant and focused.Don't let your guard down or take your safety for granted.
The sea may be beautiful but it's still unforgiving to the careless.(just be careful!)
I've followed your story as it unfolded from your delayed start,checking on your progress and encouraging others to sit with their children as they log on to your blog.
Your teaching us all alittle more about the world and alot more about the human spirit.Often kids of this generation aren't "tested" to the eighth-degree,like your Odyssey is "testing" you and everyone agrees knowledge and preparation is the key to success but it still takes alot of intestinal fortitude and mental strength.
Thanks for giving us a reason to dream and the will to act!

Hey Zac,
I wish you the best of luck with restocking the Intrepid and yourself for the final leg of your 'World Adventure.'
I noticed that Birgit, Dirk and the other amazing people from Rodriguez Island were not mentioned in the recap of your stops along the way when you ducked in to repair the Intrepid, but that's O.K. We Zac-Packers remember that day on November 5th, 2008.
I'm sure the Sunderland family will be in a whirlwind of activity as Zac makes his final run. I pray all goes smoothly for everybody!

So excited about the final leg that my knees are bouncing! It'll be a great run. Both Zac and Intrepid will recognize being back in their neighborhood!
And I stand corrected -- Somewhere back there I suggested that after the anticipated 'right turn', it would be downhill. A most knowledgable zac-Packer has said that sue to the wind direction, it would be 'uphill'. I concede!
So, downhill, uphill, or across the valley, it will all wind up at MDR and Marianne will be there all weepy and happpy! We'll all be much the same, but the degree likely cannot be compared!
